Help: which coffee table do you like best in this space?

I acquired this awesome mid century modern coffee table this week (along with about 5 other mid mod furniture pieces.....just wait 'til I share the story of how and the pictures of the other pieces).....

But, first and foremost, which table looks best in this space?  I've had the Lane coffee table here for about a year. It matches the tall console with built in planter to the right.  I don't love this Lane table but I like it a lot.   Now, enter the new coffee table.  Really cool lines right?  And it has a wire bottom shelf.  Unique.  It's a bit big but I still like it a lot - don't love it.  Which one looks good in the space until I find something that I absolutely love?

Help!

Thoughts?  Each one has it's pros and cons.

Danish Modern Settee Love Seat

We scored this beautiful little Danish Modern 2 person love seat yesterday from Craigslist.  It was one of those random "I'll check Craigslist just because" moments.  There it was, freshly posted, ridiculous price and it was only about 15 minutes from us.  I called, husband hopped in Explorer and now it's in our front room.

We had 2 slat back, low lounge chairs in the space before, which I love and won't part with, but this love seat lives here now.  The other chairs are going to be stored.   What do you think of our new piece?   I think it looks just perfect with our Lane tables and cream shag rug.  The little pillow I made awhile back out of some mid century fabric. It just works, right?

Mid Century Bar. Finally Refinished!

Remember the mid century modern bar I wrote about in January?  Well, it only took 9 1/2 months but we finally got around to refinishing the bar.  It would have happened sooner but just around the time the weather got nice for outdoor refinishing I conceived and I was unable to do the work.   Finally, here we are in late September and it's complete and ready for sale:

Before:
this is what I call "dead" wood...

After:
voila, brought back to life!

We ended up taking out the pre-cut circle cup holder piece because it was really warped and beyond repair. It was a thin piece of pressed wood, while this is real wood underneath. Much better I think.

We would actually love to keep this but we truly do not have a space for it.  Need a bigger house I guess!  My husband just loooooves when I say that.  Not!

Mid Century Wall Unit with Desk Top

We scored this on Friday at a vintage sale.  I love the design and the drop down desk top.  I like this piece so much I am considering swapping out my hutch in the dining room. We'll see how it looks in the space once we get it refinished. My husband started the stripping process today.  I hope to finish this next weekend.

I don't know exactly what you call this. I call it a wall unit, but that might refer to something more like a Cado.  What would you call this piece?

$400 for a Mid Century Mod Calculator??

I love space age mod design from the 60's (and sometimes early 70s).  I'm always on the hunt for cool pieces on Ebay. I came across this listing for a 70's modern Garrett sphere calculator.  Very cool.  I bid - reserve not met - I bid again - reserve not met - I bid again - reserve still not met. Ok, I'm out.  I kept an eye on it because I wanted to see what it sold for. This morning: SOLD for $393!  Really?  For a calculator?

Here it is. Cool but not worth $400 to me. Your thoughts?

See the listing here.  Sold for $393 + $14 for shipping.

On another note, my hubby and I went all out last weekend. We picked both days and came home with quite a loot. Lots of smalls and furniture.  I'll post some pics soon.

Have a great weekend!

Score. Herman Miller Eames Shell Rolling Office Chair.

I scored this fabulous Herman Miller Eames shell chair on rolling casters yesterday.  It's purple vinyl!  Gotta love that.  It's in great condition except for a small tear on one arm rest. Without that it would be nearly flawless.    A huge plus is it's surprisingly comfortable.

The dilemma unfolds....  I bought it with the intention of putting it in my Etsy shop, but like a lot of pieces I buy with the intention of re-selling, I get it home and then want to keep it.  I'm sure you fellow MCM lovers can relate, you find an original piece that you admire; of course you want to keep it. But, at the end of the day, my business is to sell.  I can't keep everything.  Great example is the Arka Windsor chair I found by chance and now it's sitting in my entry way.  Probably half of my finds actually make their way to my shop.

What do you think of this purple lovely?

The white areas are simply reflection of light, not damage.
Pretty cool huh?

Mid Century Modern for Pets.

If you're like me, mid century obsessed, you like everything to have the mid mod look.....even your pet's furniture and accessories.

I've been drooling over Hepper's super cool cat Pod Bed for quite some time.  I saw one on Craigslist a while back at a great price and missed out.    My kitties would love this!

As you can see below small dogs apparently love them too:

available in tons of colors and the top comes off for an open seat.

I'm also really loving the Pei Pod

How cool do these cats feel in this egg shaped house? Yeah, very cool.

And the Kitty Pod, another raised pod style bed, by HJ Mews.

Does Kitty love the Eames style?  Check out another cool design by HJ Mews, the Canopy Lounge.

Kitty love mid century architecture? Let him / her sleep in their very own mid century home by Urban Pet Haus

We all know cats work so hard...yeah right, and deserve a great place to sleep. Let your kitty (or man's best friend) lounge in style on the Bambu Pet Hammock by Pet Lounge Studios.

I never thought in a million years I could appreciate the design of a cat scratcher.  But, here it is:

And an attractive litter box? Never....right?  Nope, they made that look good too:

And slightly more litter boxy feeling, yet still way cool in a space age design, the Litter Robot, self cleaning system:

Does kitty crave pretty feeding bowls like you crave vintage dinnerware?  Try one of Vurv's amazing designs:

Can someone tell this little cute guy he's not technically supposed to be IN the bowl?

Makes me want to go shopping for my cats. How about you?

Sol Saks Estate.

I did not battle the crowds and early dawn hours to be one of the first in line at the Sol Saks estate sale.  I was just too tired and had an inkling the prices would be high.  Instead, I went on Sunday.  Yes, the sale was picked over but my feeling was correct, the prices were very high.  The blue mid century arm chair pictured in my last post from this sale?  $600.  Out of my league!  The smalls that  were left were over-priced too, even on the second day.

I really wanted to go just to see the mid century-esque house.  It did not disappoint.  Set South of the boulevard in the hills in Sherman Oaks, California, the sprawling 21,000 square foot lot of land featured a modern bi-level home with floor to ceiling windows, lots of light, a spiral staircase and an incredible entertainer's back yard.  It was fun to peek into some Hollywood history.

Sol Saks was the writer of the 1960's series Bewitched.  He died April 2011 at the age of 100.

Saturday Estate Sales.

I plan to go sailing this Saturday.  Here are a couple of estate sales that look very promising.  Problem is, I'd have to be in line at the crack of dawn to get the good stuff. That's just not happening at almost 6 months pregnant!  I'll let you know what happens.  Man, I'd love to nab those laurel style lamps.

#1 Estate Sale of Sol Saks, the creator of "Bewitched" television show 1960's:

#2 Old Hollywood Memorabilia at the Hollywood Castle:

This one might be fun to go to just to tour the house.

Have a wonderful long weekend!
