Another Danish Modern Rocking Chair - Missed!

I can't believe it. Another Danish Modern rocking chair on Craigslist at a ridiculous price.  I thought $100 for the one I blogged about a month ago was a steal! This one?  $50!!!!!!

This was listed Thursday night at 9:45 pm.  Friday morning at 8:56 I emailed.  I knew it would be too late but I had to make an effort.  There was no phone number so I waited all day for an email reply.  I wanted this chair for my baby's nursery so badly but I did not get my hopes up.  Los Angeles is filled with dealers that monitor Craigslist 24/7 for deals like this.   There are actually apps that alert you of new postings with your key words as soon as they hit Craigslist.  Geez, guess I need a newer phone!

So, I received an email last night that the rocker "Sold quite quickly".   I'm sure someone spotted the posting 5 minutes after it was listed and grabbed it first thing in the morning.  Dang it!  Status: I'm still dreaming of the day I'll own one of these. ;(

Heartbreak, again.  $50!

The Sale of All Sales!

Wow, what a sale!  I found the listing this morning and made my way there as fast as I could.  Check it out here.  Thanks to Los Angeles morning traffic it took me a long time to get there. I made it 30 minutes after the sale started.  In line to pay, people were holding starburst wall clocks, retro flip clocks, you name it, they had it.    The (incredible) starburst wall clock in some lucky fellow's hand - marked $15!   Ahhhhhh!

To put it gently, the sale was a mad house.  Wall to wall people, no organization or direction, just grab and run.  The line to pay weaved from the driveway through the house, and boy was it stuffy inside the house.  There was so much stuff it was overwhelming. I filled my huge shopping bag within 5 minutes and was balancing a stack of things under my other arm.  I simply could not get anything else.  What a bummer.  Plus, being preggos I was not able to carry heavy things.  There was not a holding table and it wasn't like you could easily pay and go back in for more.  I stood in line sweating for over half hour.  I'll probably go back tomorrow morning.

I was able to snatch some mid century modern fabric, planters, 2 Popsie toys, wall art, a bookcase / shelf, a knitting bag, mushroom wall clock, furniture peg legs and a complete Fisher Price Little People barn and silo with all the people and animals (I collect Little People stuff).   Ugh, I hate to think of all the things I missed out on but I could see that the first crowd in the house got the A-list goods, like the starburst wall clock.  I don't feel too bad.  Hey, I tried to get there early!

Some pictures of the sale from Craigslist:

Ebay Purchase: Mid Century Atomic Sewing Stool

Yay! I found a cool atomic age sewing storage box / stool yesterday on Ebay and won it today.  I came across it by doing a funky search with various key words.  Ebay is strange in that if you don't try various combinations of your key words things won't come up.  At least that's what I've found in recent searches.

Only $15.49!!  I can't wait to get it. I love the hair pin legs.

My Latest Obsession: Vintage Sewing Boxes

After owning my sewing machine for 5 years I finally brought it out and taught myself to sew this past Sunday.  The issue was I hate to "learn" anything. I just want to be able to do it.  Dumb, I know.  I definitely hate to read directions so learning to sew was very intimidating.  The sewing manual just seemed too scary.  Long story short, it turned out to be so easy and I wish I had made the attempt sooner.  Anyway..... now I need something cute to store all my sewing gear in.  Of course it's got to be vintage!

I'm drooling over this one but who has $500 to spend on a sewing box?

1950's Lounge Chairs in Their New Home.

I just got an update from the buyer of my 50's orange upholstered lounge chairs. Here they are in her home. Don't they look perfect?  It's like looking back in the past .... or at a set on Mad Men!

Here are some photos of the chairs in my home. They are unique chairs and I really like them but they didn't work in my space.  It's good they found a new home where they'll be loved and cared for.

Unique Mid Century Spindle Chair. Who Designed This?

I stopped by a garage sale on Friday, a drive by no less, and bought this mid century spindle chair.  Love when you just so happen to find something mid century at a random sale!

It's quite unique with its ultra wide back and seat shape. Have you ever seen anything like it?  It looks like there was a tag on the bottom at some point. Other than that there is no marking or indication of where it came from.  Any ideas?
